Welcome to MaBelle’s Garden! I can’t believe a whole year has passed since my cross country move from California to Connecticut. Looking back on 2023, I see that this was a foundational year. This two hundred and thirty eight year old house needed a good dose of LOVE! We painted her inside and out, wallpapered walls and added a much needed bathroom and laundry room. In the process there were some invisible emergencies like sewer lines that needed upgrading as well as converting from oil heat to natural gas. I started seeds in the house and created new gardens from what was seeded along with investing in many perennials that will hopefully keep growing year after year. It was all very new and quite exciting with a twist of anxiety.

Now I sit at my writing desk envisioning what I would like to “seed” literally and metaphorically. Year two feels both foundational as well as expansive. Through my previous experiences, I have come to understand that creative endeavours have their own rhythm, they can’t be rushed or forced. Gardens mature at their own pace just like people. This transition from my small flower farm in the Ojai Valley where I was on a perpetual growth cycle to the very distinct seasons of New England where I am forced to rest during the winter months is a welcome respite.

I started this new year with my first wedding here on New Year’s Eve. It was a beautiful and elegant celebration with whites, greens and touches of gold. I am currently booking up for the rest of the year so if you are interested in my services please contact me soon. There is nothing like the magic of seasonally grown and not flown flowers to celebrate your special day!

All my love,

Eileen

PS. Happy Wintering….remember to rest and restore like the seeds and the trees! Come Spring you will bloom again.
